What can you use MONA for?

MonaCoin (MONA) is a peer-to-peer digital currency intended for payments. It launched in 2014 as an open-source project and is known for its roots in Japan, where it has been used for online tipping and payments. Its purpose is closer to Bitcoin or Litecoin than to a token designed for decentralized finance or app-based services.

MONA runs on its own blockchain, rather than being an asset issued on Ethereum or another general-purpose network. The project is based on Litecoin and uses proof-of-work mining. That means you can send MONA between compatible wallets, but you should not assume it can be used in smart contracts, staking, or other token services. MonaCoin does not publish a staking mechanism.

If you are considering MONA for payments, first check whether the recipient or merchant accepts it and whether your exchange or wallet supports withdrawals on the MonaCoin network. A coin’s existence does not guarantee that it is easy to spend or convert where you live.

Which network and wallet should you use for MONA?

MONA belongs to the MonaCoin blockchain. It is not an Ethereum, BNB Chain, or other network token, and no issued-on-chain versions are identified. When sending or receiving it, select MonaCoin as the network on both ends. If a wallet or exchange does not explicitly show support for MONA on its native network, do not send a test amount there without first confirming the deposit instructions.

Choose a wallet that specifically supports MonaCoin. A Litecoin wallet is not automatically compatible just because MonaCoin is based on Litecoin. Before moving a meaningful balance, check that the wallet can receive MONA, that you can back up and restore it, and that the exchange you plan to use accepts MONA deposits and withdrawals. Exchange support can vary by location and can change.

MONA uses proof of work, with Lyra2REv2 identified as its mining algorithm. That is different from proof-of-stake systems: holding MONA does not by itself earn staking rewards. Check the network name and address carefully for every transfer, especially when withdrawing from a custodial exchange.

How much MONA exists, and how easy is it to trade?

MonaCoin had about 105.12 million MONA in circulation and the same amount reported as total supply as of 2026-11-08. A maximum supply is not specified, so you should not assume that MONA has a fixed cap. The project launched without a premine, according to its launch description, and new coins are associated with proof-of-work mining.

The supply figure tells you how many coins were reported as circulating at that date; it does not say how many are actively traded or readily available to buy and sell. Trading conditions can matter more than the headline supply if you need to convert MONA quickly. On 2026-11-08, reported 24-hour trading volume was about $5,000, a small amount that can mean thin markets and larger price movements when orders are placed.

Treat market figures as snapshots, not as a valuation or a forecast. Check current exchange prices, order-book depth, and withdrawal availability before making a transaction. Do not rely on an old supply or trading figure for a decision today.

How can you store MONA and reduce the main risks?

For self-custody, keep your wallet recovery phrase offline and private. Do not share it with anyone or enter it into a site or message claiming to restore, verify, or upgrade your MONA. Use a wallet that clearly supports the MonaCoin network, protect the device with a strong passcode, and keep a separate backup in a secure place. If you use an exchange, secure the account with unique credentials and available two-factor authentication, but remember that the exchange controls the coins held there.

MONA carries market risk as well as the usual risks of sending cryptocurrency. Its reported 24-hour volume was about $5,000 on 2026-11-08, so a large order may be difficult to execute without affecting the price. The price can also fall, and there is no guarantee that an exchange will continue supporting deposits or withdrawals. A transfer sent to the wrong address or network may be irreversible.

Send a small test transaction when practical, confirm the address and network independently, and wait for the recipient’s required confirmations before treating a payment as complete. Only hold an amount you can afford to lose.

MonaCoin (MONA) is ranked #1,517 by market capitalisation, with a market cap of about $6.39M and a price of $0.0608 as of Nov 8, 2026. Its fully diluted valuation ($6.39M) is close to its market cap, so little new supply is still to come.

The price was down 4.4% over 7 days, down 19.5% over 30 days, down 34.4% over the past year. It trades about 100% below its all-time high of $16.45, set on Dec 5, 2017.

About 105.12M MONA are in circulation. No hard maximum supply is listed, so new tokens can still be issued.

24-hour trading volume was about $5.05K, or 0.1% of its market cap: low turnover, so large orders can move the price.
