Owning DYM: Uses, Storage and Risks

DYM is the token used on Dymension, a Cosmos-based network built to let developers launch application-specific chains called RollApps. On the Dymension Hub, DYM is used for transaction fees and operations related to RollApps. It is also associated with staking and governance in the wider ecosystem, though you should check current network rules before relying on either function.

For you as a holder, that means DYM’s use depends partly on activity and features on Dymension—not just on whether it can be traded. A token’s stated role does not guarantee demand or value. Before using DYM in an app, check that the app supports the correct DYM asset and network, and understand any fees or lockups involved.

Dymension is the network associated with DYM’s native use. DYM is also listed as issued on Osmosis and within the Cosmos ecosystem, so you may encounter versions or representations of the token outside its home network. The asset and network selected for a transfer must match at both ends; choosing the wrong route can leave funds inaccessible.

Use a wallet that explicitly supports the Dymension network for native DYM, or the specific Cosmos-based network holding the version you own. Before sending, check the network name, destination address and any token or transfer details shown by your wallet or exchange. Do not assume that a wallet displaying a DYM balance can send it over every network. If you are moving funds between chains, confirm the supported route and consider testing with a small amount first.
