Owning DEGEN: Uses, Networks and Risks

DEGEN is a meme token tied to a community and a broader set of onchain projects. The project describes it as a shared token for products and experiences that include opinion markets, digital identity and NFTs, with more applications planned. That describes the project’s intended role; check each product’s current terms and whether it actually accepts DEGEN before sending tokens or connecting a wallet.

DEGEN is not a share in a company and does not give you ownership of the ecosystem. Its value can depend heavily on community interest, trading activity and whether people use the associated products. As a meme token, it can also move sharply for reasons unrelated to practical use. Treat any proposed utility as something to verify rather than a guarantee of future demand.

DEGEN has been issued on Base, Solana, Robinhood Chain, Ethereum and Arbitrum. It is not identified as the native token of any of those networks, so DEGEN and the gas token used to pay network fees are separate assets. A wallet or exchange may support DEGEN on one network but not another.

For self-custody, keep DEGEN in a wallet that supports the network on which your tokens are held. Protect the recovery phrase offline, never share it, and be wary of anyone asking you to enter it into a website or send it in a message. A wallet’s network selection matters: sending DEGEN to an address or service that cannot handle that network can leave the tokens inaccessible.
